After a very good day at Boxend Cable park, a little stiff, Alex and I decided to travel down to Weymouth for the Olympic Sailing. With thanks to Sport Makers for supplying me with these tickets, we were able to watch the sailing with the atmosphere of hundreds of other people. We arrived at a campsite late Wednesday night and woke up to a spectacular view of Portland Harbour Thursday morning, it was so hot! As our tickets were for Friday we decided to explore the area and we found a small beach close to the Nothe Fort where the sailing was to take place. This beach was packed and had two big screens showing the Olympics, lots of things to see and do! We decided a travel night in the area would be a good idea, so we stayed at a very nice travel lodge, walking distance to the Nothe Fort. The gates opened at 10am Friday morning and the forecast was looking good. After checking out we made our way to the Fort, via Asda to get our lunch! We arrived at the Fort with plenty of time to spare so we had time to check out what they had to show us. The first race started at 12 and this was the mens. In order for us to get gold we had to get 1st over the line and get a boat between us and the Australians. During this race the atmosphere was great, and even still when we crossed over the line in 3rd, which meant we got silver! The guys capsized the boat, lit a flare and danced on top of it... We couldn't have been much prouder. The sea breeze died soon after this race so we decided to take a tour around the Nothe Fort... Saturday was a very nice day too and a bonus... There was wind! Looking out to the harbour we noticed there were quite a few kites out, so we thought we would travel down and check out the area. It was quite choppy and blowing easterly which meant that conditions were onshore. But that didn't stop Alex or I! I had new bindings to try out so I was EXCITED! It was such a good session with very nice, local riders and Alex from Naish, we made a day of it. By the end of it we were hungry, and fancied some Cajun chicken, back at the campsite we left it out to marinade for a bit.. Little did we know we would be sharing it with the sea gulls.... Sunday came quickly, and as there was no wind at Weymouth we took a de-tour to Poole Harbour to check out the weather there and to meet up with Lana. Unfortunately there was no wind, so we headed back.
It was such a good trip and a great experience!! Would love to do it all again.
