I’m super stoked to take home 1st for the Pro women at the second round of the British Kitesurfing Competition!
I had a long 24 hours of travelling back from the South of France to Southend in Essex with my parents after a hot 2 week holiday. Straight off the tunnel back in England, we headed straight to the event. By this point it was already afternoon on the Saturday, and with some running commentary from friends who were already at the event, I was made aware that the competition had already started! Arriving at the event after a horrible nights sleep and an 8 or so hour drive that morning, I had only just missed my first heat. The conditions there weren’t promising, the wind was up and down so after a little waiting they made the decision to postpone the event till the Sunday meaning I still had a chance to work my way up to podium. Sunday’s forecast was great with only a little bit of rain on the cards, but we ended up having a down pour for the whole day. Coming from France, meant I only had summer clothes, which wasn’t pleasant and soon meant I had to borrow some to try stay warm… Our heats were started late afternoon. Going out for a free ride before the event to warm up and I was very happy that I was landing everything I could do in the very gusty conditions. My first heat was with Sukie, another Ozone rider and Rose. The wind had just dropped, but as soon as the heat started it picked up so much I was a little over powered on my 8m Catalyst. Going from 2 weeks on my 12m straight to my 8m felt pretty crazy but I was confident. I took first in this heat which meant I got into the semis. By the time my next heat was up, the conditions had got much more challenging with choppy water as the tide was coming in. The wind was still strong but I kept on my 8m. Winning this heat put me into the final round which was with Rosanna. The wind had dropped a little half way through so it got a bit harder to stay up wind in the on-shore conditions but I powered through landing all of the tricks I’d performed in my previous heats and securing my 1st place. It was a great event with a great outcome considering the rush to get there! The level of riding was high throughout the day in all of the categories so I look forward to seeing everyone again at my home spot in Hunstanton for the last event of the year! Thanks to Ian Edmondson, one of the kitesurfing photographers, for capturing the action at the British Kitesurfing Competition.

I’ve been very lucky with the wind at home this last month meaning lots of training sessions in between work for the British Kitesurfing Competitions. There is only three events this year and the second one is next weekend, but I unfortunately miss this event as I will be travelling back from France.
I’ve travelled down to the South of France, Biscarrosse with my family and some friends for two weeks of kiting, surfing and SUPing. We’ve had heaps of sunshine, a few days of wind and plenty of waves so there is always something to do. I had my first experience of kiting on a lake a few days ago which was exciting but incredibly gusty. Even though the lake is massive, where we were the wind was swinging all over the place. But it was still great to get out in some Fresh, clear water for a short session. When I arrive back home, I’ll have 3 weeks before the final competition at my home spot in Hunstanton. Hoping for some good wind between now and then for some serious training! |
