Episode 19- Jo and Jalou in the UK Jo Wilson invited Jalou Langeree and I to her home spot in the UK for a taste of her hometown...showing that once again, you don't need to travel to the other side of the world to get some great kiting conditions in some amazing landscapes! I was looking forward to this trip, it happened so fast! One minute I was working and the next I was having a conversation with Jo and it was like 'lets go make a movie!' It was a great three day trip, no only were we all riding hard for 3 days, we also explored Jo's home spot, which meant doing what Jo does- running through the hills, checking out spots... One spot was wicked, butter flat water, it was great! But the first day we went there we ended up getting a puncture, we were there for ages! Luckily these nice guys were there to help us out. We also found this really cool harbour with this massive boat, it was a laugh to try and pull it. It was a great couple of days! To end it of well we travelled up to check out the lochs... For it being late in the year the water was incredibly warm so we decided to... JUMP! Such a nice cool off for a fab weekend!

Ayrshire was a very long drive for our parents, taking us around 7hours to get there! Luckily we stopped at Doncaster Thursday night to split the journey up a little.
We arrived at Ayrshire Friday lunch time and we were soon layering up with a t-shirt, 2 hoodies and a coat and scarf. We got there in time to watch the end of the Pro ladies and Men, the conditions looked very challenging with wind one moment then barely any the next.. we were hoping for better weather Saturday. Friday night was a good atmosphere with everyone catching up, the juniors and youths on the land boards. We were all looking forward to Saturday, the forecast was looking good! Saturday came and it wasn't as cold which was a bonus after the terrible weather during the night in our tents! It was also Chloe's 15th birthday! There wasn't much wind to begin with but we all kitted up after breakfast just as the southerly wind came through. The Amateur Ladies fleet came after successfully running the Juniors heats after a couple of black flags. Chloe was up first against Polly and Lana. Polly got through to the final which meant that Chloe had to have another heat to decide whether she would be joining Polly. The second heat was ran with Danielle, Keira and Jemima, after 4 black flags (which means the heat is unable to go ahead due to the lack of wind) our heat actually counted. Danielle: The conditions were very challenging, we were all on our biggest kites and working them. Luckily the wind blew through constant enough for our heat to run all the way through! By this point we were all warmed up and rearing to go. I won this heat which automatically put me through to the final. Chloe then had her heat, and we spurred each other on, with myself running her board up-wind. Chloe one her heat, so we were in the final together! The final was also another tough heat with the wind changing direction to onshore. We were all fighting for the little space we had so we made the best of the conditions, with Polly getting a surface pass and I crashing out a raily to blind. After we all congratulated each other as the wind died. The results were announced that night at a very nice bar that had a Brucking Bronko! Everyone had their go.. and fell off too. Chloe had a nice birthday surprise from the Pro Ladies and a signed card from everyone. We then went back to the beach to eat her birthday cake which Richard Flindall and Luke Whiteside brought for her :) soon followed by a game of guitar hero! Amateur Ladies results: Polly Crathorne- 1st Danielle Durrant- 2nd Chloe Durrant- 3rd On Sunday we were faced with horrible conditions, but that didn't stop us from going out to get involved in the expression session. With cross-off shore wind and very gusty we all tried to make the best of it. Chloe started straight away with a Whirly-bird which ended her to get lofted mid air as a gust came through. Luckily she wasn't hurt and she came in to sort out her lines. There was some very powered riding going down and big air. We soon all came in for the presentation. Check out below for some photos of the event. |
